What Gets Rid Of Stretch Marks

Unsightly stretch marks, that are the scourge of almost every pregnancy, can be dealt with in various ways, from over-the-counter stretch mark removal treatment creams, diet and exercising to surgical stretch mark repair, such as demabrasion, chemical peels and laser surgery. The reddish, purple and pink striations across the skin are aggravated by dryness, a lack of vitamin A, C, and E as well as zinc and protein deficiencies and not ingesting enough fluids. Because insurance does not extend to cosmetic treatments to get rid of stretch marks, it is essential that women try to maintain a balanced diet, light exercise routine and skin hydration throughout pregnancy.

The common cause of stretch marks is the stretching of the skin, an increase in cortisone production that undermines the elasticity of the skin and the interruption of collagen production. Usually, maternity or other weight gain causes the appearance of stretch marks. However, other folks may get these scars too. These include body builders, growing adolescents, those taking Corticosteroids or individuals with a hereditary disorder, including Cushing’s syndrome, Marfan syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Folks may be predisposed to these unsightly marks if they have dry skin, have poor water intake, consume excess greasy foods, exercise too little or too much, take steroids, smoke or drink.

Even though there are various so-called stretch mark treatments available, most are at best only partially effectual. The least invasive treatment is the use of stretch mark creams such as Tretinoin cream (Retin-A, Renova) that can assist with new stretching during maternity. These creams work by rebuilding collagen with the effect of reducing stretch mark appearance.Another form of treatment for new marks is Pulsed Dye Laser Therapy or Fractional Photothermolysis, both of which employ wavelengths of light to stimulate collagen and elastin growth. For older marks, Microdermabrasion employs a handheld device to polish the skin surface with crystals, thereby removing skin cells from the top layer of skin to stimulate newer, more elastic skin growth. In addition, for older white marks, the Excimer laser attempts to encourage melanin production to reduce the appearance of the scars.

Because ninety percent of women encounter maternity stretch marks of some sort, there is no need to bemoan or agonize your new body. Your hubby will always look at you as the mother of his babies, which carries a particularly special significance, regardless of how your body has changed during these last nine months. Occasionally, several sessions of self confidence counseling can do much more than some magic cream for stretch marks that might do little more than cost you money. Unless the scars stretch over large parts of your entire body, you need not be concerned about these innocuous marks. So, rather than worrying yourself silly over what to do about stretch marks, the best thing you can do is focus on slimming down, feeling restored and taking care of that warm, snuggly new child.
