By Joyce • Jul 22nd, 2009 • Category: AcneEveryone wants clear, impurities-free skin. Too bad, not all of us were blessed to have the model- look beautiful skin that we always wanted. Alot of us are always bombarded with those various skin disorders and we are always flocking to our drugstores to buy the latest wonder treatment for that naturally gorgeous skin.
Did you know that the skin is the largest organ in your body? Covering you from head to toe, the skin is one of the vital parts of your body’s defense system. Remember that clean and healthy skin means a wholesome body and a estactic you.
Skin experts and practitioners recommend several natural acne cures.
Here are some natural acne cures that we have compiled just for you.
• Clean your face twice a day (thrice at most) with mild and unperfumed cleanser. Avoid using soaps as they contain strong chemicals and ingredients that can damage your skin.
• Steer clear of touching your face. Stop putting your hands by your face! I am regularly guilty of this, placing my hand on the side of my head while reading. Also scratching or holding your chin is another usual quandary when thinking. Refrain from stroking, feeling, or itching your skin with your hands. Your hands have a lot of bacteria that can cause acne flare-ups. It is possibly one of the most difficult things to refrain from since much of the hand to face contact during the day we are unconscious of. Make it a practice to refrain from hand contact and be mindful of it through the course of the day to avoid bacteria.
• Refrain from the temptation to pick, prick and squeeze your acne. This will propel the infection deeper into the skin and may result in permanent scarring.
• For minor to average acne, you can use over- the- counter topical ointments, solutions, lotions or gels that have benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or azelaic acid as an alternative to benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is best at killing P. acnes and may decrease oil production. Resorcinol, salicylic acid, and sulfur help break down blackheads and whiteheads. Salicylic acid also helps lessen the shedding of cells lining the follicles of the oil glands.
• Topical antibiotic solutions and lotions can also be applied.
• Tea tree oil is a natural antibiotic and antibacterial treatment and has a drying effect on the skin. It keeps the P. Acnes bacteria at bay along with cutting down facial oiliness, which makes this oil a worthwhile investment.
• Sulfur helps to heal existing blemishes by unblocking pores.
• Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acids (AHA or BHA) work by keeping the skin exfoliated. Glycolic acid, the most recognized of the bunch is a useful adjuvant therapy for mild acne. Mandelic acid, a not as popular one, but one that combines the keratolytic properties of glycolic acid with natural antibacterial properties that help lessen the presence of P. acnes, many believe a more useful alpha hydroxy acid in treating acne lesions. It is also no where near as irritating than glycolic acid, a factor that may be very vital to those with sensitive skin who are unable to use other agents such as Retin-A, benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, or salicylic acid. It is successful in treating mild cases of acne on its own, and can be used effectively with other remedies on mild acne.
These natural acne cures are usually useful for minor to average acne problems only. The results can take several weeks or around three to six months to be noticed. For more severe and serious acne conditions, do not delay in contacting your dermatologist.
Remember, no matter what you do, simplicity and moderation is often the key. Do not abuse your skin. Go easy and gentle. And put your best face forward.

Over the years while growing up as a teenager with acne and then during my adulthood having raising three children I have always been learning about our skin and finally was able to take the mystery, confusion and complexity out of skin care. My aim is to give you the answers that will allow you to have that flawless, younger looking skin you have always wanted.
